Anti-social Behaviour
Anti-social behaviour is an aggressive and destructive activity that intimidates, threatens and causes distress.
It damages the quality of life for individuals, families and communities. Left unchecked, anti-social behaviour can have an overwhelming impact on its victims and in some cases, on the wider community
Examples of anti-social behaviour include:
- Fireworks
- Nuisance parking and abandoned vehicles
- Nuisance and abandoned animals
- Nuisance noise
- Annoying phone calls or unwanted visits
- Fly-tipping and other littering
- Disputes with neighbours
- Nuisance behaviour by groups of people
- Vehicle nuisance involving cars, bikes and mopeds
Report anti-social behaviour by ringing the police on 101, or call 999 if it is an emergency or the situation could become heated or violent very soon.
Guidance
In 2021 the Home Office revised the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 which gives guidance for front-line professionals about what powers are available. This can be viewed via clicking the link below.
In some situations it will be appropriate to work with partners and use anti-social behaviour powers to protect people from abuse and/or self-neglect.
