SAR Mathew 2021

A Discretionary SAR for 'Mathew' was published in 2021 and written by SSAB Business Manager Jane Bowmer.

Mathew had a number of challenges with drug addiction and mental health and was known to a number of different services. Mathew was known within the criminal justice system for the majority of his adult life and often spoke about and attempted to take his own life from an early age. Mathew was in a long-term relationship and has two children. There were concerns regarding domestic abuse, but there was no evidence that Mathew was ever physically abusive towards his partner. Mathew was a devoted father and found it difficult to be separated from his children.

Mathew experienced homelessness at the end of his life due to the breakdown in his relationship with the mother of his children and was not allowed in the local area. Sadly, Mathew took his own life at a train station.
