What is PiPoT?
Person in a Position of Trust (PiPoT) refers to an individual who, through their professional or voluntary role, has access to adults with care and support needs and is expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct and safeguarding.
If concerns arise about their behaviour—whether inside or outside of work—that may pose a risk to adults at risk, a PiPoT process may be initiated. This process ensures that any potential safeguarding concerns are assessed and managed appropriately, balancing the rights of the individual with the need to protect others.
It is not a disciplinary procedure, but a safeguarding response that involves multi-agency collaboration to determine any necessary actions.
In June 2025, Adult Social Care in Salford launched a new PiPoT process.
The board's framework and supporting documents below have been reviewed and updated to reflect the changes introduced by this new process (see below).
