July 2025
Dear Colleagues,
We hope this edition finds you well and enjoying the summer so far. June brought a refreshing change for the Board as we met face-to-face for the first time in a while. There was something quite energising about sitting around the same table again, sharing ideas and updates in person rather than through a screen. It was a great reminder of the value of connection and collaboration in our shared safeguarding work.
As a quick reminder, our newsletter now goes out every two months rather than every three. This means you’ll hear from us more regularly, though in slightly shorter bursts. We’ll continue to keep you informed with key updates, useful resources, and highlights from across the partnership in a more digestible format.
Thanks for reading, and as always, we welcome your feedback and contributions.
Snapshot of the June Board Meeting
The Salford Safeguarding Adults Board met this June to reflect on recent progress and look ahead to key priorities. Business Manager Jane Bowmer shared updates on the Board’s ongoing work, the upcoming Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection was discussed and the Board also considered the annual report of Voice of the Adult (VOTA) initiative, which brings real-life experiences into safeguarding conversations. Updates on Salford’s new Housing Strategy and improvements at Edenfield forensic units were given and discussions around national reforms and local risks highlighted the importance of keeping safeguarding at the heart of partnership work. The meeting closed with thanks to retiring members and looked ahead to welcoming new board members at future meetings. A summary of the minutes is published here.

The Salford Safeguarding Adults Board has published its 21st Annual Report, highlighting a year of progress, partnership, and learning. It also shares insights from Safeguarding Adult Reviews and celebrates the collaborative efforts of partners across the city. You can read the full report here.
Listening, Learning, and Improving: Voice of the Adult 2024–2025

The Salford Safeguarding Adults Board’s ‘Voice of the Adult 2024–2025’ report highlights a year of meaningful engagement with adults who have experienced safeguarding processes. This inaugural report captures the voices of individuals and carers, offering valuable insights into what is working well and where improvements are needed. By gathering feedback from people with lived experiences, the Board has deepened its understanding of lived experiences, ensuring that adult voices directly inform policy, practice, and service development. The findings underscore the importance of person-centred approaches and reinforce the Board’s commitment to continuous learning and improvement across the safeguarding partnership.
The CQC Inspection on the Horizon
Salford is preparing for a visit from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) later this year, as part of its new assurance framework for adult social care. The first stage is already underway, with Salford’s Self Assessment being submitted and the teams compiling evidence ahead of a likely onsite visit in the autumn. The inspection will include conversations with frontline staff, and may involve Board members too. It’s a valuable opportunity to showcase the strength of local safeguarding partnerships and the commitment to continuous improvement across the system.
