'What's New?' on the SSAB Website
Have you noticed the changes we have made to our homepage? You can now find a short list of ‘What’s New’ on our website, we encourage you to take a look so you can keep up with our latest developments!
New Factsheets
Our ‘7 Minute Briefings’ webpage is one of our most popular webpages as it includes concentrated briefings for professionals to keep them informed about pertinent areas of practice. We have recently added a new ‘Factsheets’ section to the page to provide a concise and accessible guide to key aspects of Safeguarding practice in Salford.
New PiPoT 7 Minute Briefing

PiPoT stands for ‘Person in Position of Trust’. You can find out more about this and why it is relevant to your safeguarding practice by reading our new 7 Minute Briefing on PiPoT which you can find on our 7 Minute Briefing page.
We also want to encourage you to make sure you are familiar with with the SSAB’s PiPoT Framework and process which you can find on this page. You should also make sure you are familiar with your own organisation’s PiPoT policy and procedure.
SAR Harry Briefing Document

Harry (pseudonym) is a life-long Salford resident who has struggled to manage his mental health and drug addiction. He was the victim of exploitation which had serious consequences for his health and wellbeing. A Mandatory Safeguarding Adult Review (SAR) was carried out and a Briefing Document has been published to provide a summary of the key areas of learning and good practice identified by the review.
The Connect Team
SAR Harry acknowledged that effective partnership working within the Connect Team was an example of good practice. How much do you know about the Connect Team?
Salford Connect Team is a co-located multi-agency team set up to respond to the exploitation of children and adults and includes police detectives, children’s social workers, a youth worker, a Banardo’s worker, a parenting worker, a children’s psychotherapist, health practitioners and an advanced social work practitioner for adult exploitation. You can find out more about their work here.
If you are concerned about an adult who may be being exploited, check out our pathway for reporting concerns to the police which you can find here.
Video Explaining the National Referral Mechanism (NRM)
If you have identified someone who could potentially be a victim of modern slavery think NRM! The NRM is the UK’s mechanism to identify, assess and support potential victims of modern slavery. Watch this video from the National County Lines Coordination Centre for a clear explanation of the NRM.
Self-Neglect Guidance

Just a gentle reminder - if you work with people who self-neglect, make sure you familiarise yourself with our new Self Neglect Guidance and pay special attention to the useful practitioner’s toolkit at the end of the guidance.
Voice of the Adult - ‘No Meeting About Me, Without Me’
At the SSAB, our quality assurance work, including collaboration with individuals who have lived-experience of the safeguarding process, consistently highlights the importance of informing and inviting adults at risk (and/or their representatives) to safeguarding meetings concerning them.
We want to send the message out loud and clear: there should be ‘No Meeting About Me, Without Me’!
Have you thought about Professional Curiosity?
‘Professional Curiosity’ is an increasingly-used term in work with adults who are at risk. How confident are you that you know what it means and how to use it in your day-to-day work? The SAB Manager network have produced a useful guide to Professional Curiosity which you can find here.
